Lodah Tour 2006

Dear Friends,

We are inviting you to participate in SITMo’s Lodah Tour (rice terraces land preparation) on October 27-29, 2006. This is the second of the tours that the Save the IFugao Terraces Movement is designing after the successful Bakle Festival Tour last August.

Please support this tour as it helps the Ifugao rice terraces by bringing tourists to share the tourism income with the community. Part of the proceeds of the tour goes to the community heritage trust fund to help them promote their indigenous culture and preserve the rice terraces.

The Lodah Tour will bring tourists to help restore a neglected terraces in Bayninan, a village in Barangay Nagacadan, Kiangan and will also give them a chance to stay overnight in Bangaan, in the municipality of Banaue.

Thank you very much.

Very truly yours,

TEDDY B. BAGUILAT, JR.
President

“Be part of restoring abandoned rice terraces, and saving a World Heritage. Join the SITMo’s Lodah Package Tour, in cooperation with the Kiangan Municipal Local Government Unit and Bayninan, Nagacadan community.”

Lodah is opening rice terraces or restoring long abandoned terraces. Activities include recovering eroded portions, cleaning the paddy and paddy walls, stonewalling and tilling involving manual labor. This is done through the traditional system of ubbu or bayanihan.

Through the tour, the participants can also engage in other activities such as traditional weaving, bayah or rice wine making, and preparing the binakle or rice cake.

For day 2 of the tour, the participants will have a picnic in any of these pristine and serene spots – Bagnit Waterfalls, Uttu Waterfalls or Mt. Kapugan.

The participants will then travel to Bangaan Family Inn in Bangaan, Banaue for their dinner and a cultural night.

A lazy morning after a tedious 2 days awaits in Bangaan. One can just pass away the time viewing the Bangaan Rice Terraces from the Inn or do a leisure trek to the village.

The afternoon will be spent shopping in the Banaue town center.
